A noteworthy review of Investigating Pollution from Booklist on October 1, 2022

Cover: Investigating Nuclear Pollution

Investigating Pollution (8 titles) is an inaugural series under the new Wonder Books imprint, and it uses narrative nonfiction to make the fact-filled text go down easy. This title examines different sources of nuclear pollution, its dangers, past nuclear disasters, and the benefits and hazards of nuclear energy. The smoothly written text draws in readers with accounts of Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, and Fukushima as well as the impact of testing and using nuclear bombs. Readers will get a basic sense of the science of nuclear energy and the extreme power behind it. While the stock photos aren’t especially noteworthy, the infographic depicting the scale of nuclear explosions is a nice addition. ‘Fast Facts’ and a simple activity help to reinforce the book’s concepts. An approachable blend of history and STEM.
