Editorial Review

A noteworthy review of Neighborhood Helpers from School Library Journal on August 1, 2006

Cover: Coaches

While these books introduce the roles of community helpers, they are also perfect for children who want to find out about specific careers. All of them are narrated by youngsters who want to help their neighborhoods when they grow up. Each spread is headed by a statement-‘I Could Be a Coach!’-or a question-‘Who Works with Veterinarians?’-and gives information about prerequisites, training, workplaces, and equipment needed to do the job. People practicing in the fields are also featured. Colorful, close-up photos that show males and females of various ethnicities contribute, and sidebars on strips of vivid color add to the attractiveness and informational value of these titles.
