Editorial Review
A noteworthy review of Values to Live By from School Library Journal on November 1, 2013
These titles offer simple description of positive virtues with a basic definition and examples of what it means to demonstrate them at home, at school, or in public. Generosity is introduced as sharing not only money and material things, but also time with others. The concept is expanded to include sharing knowledge, TV time with siblings, or listening to others when they need a sympathetic ear. Showing respect involves being patient and considerate of others as well as showing patriotism by respecting our country. Tolerance is portrayed as accepting things and others at school, in your neighborhood, and among your friends and being OK with knowing you may be different in some ways. Each left-hand page includes five or six sentences and faces a photograph of children demonstrating the concept on the opposite page. Update older copies of character-education materials with these serviceable additions.
