Editorial Review
A noteworthy review of Influential Women from Booklist on October 1, 2024

There have been women warriors throughout history, and this collective biography introduces four women who served in the U.S. military: Cathay Williams disguised her identity to fight in the Civil War, becoming the first Black woman to enlist in the U.S. Army; Korean American Susan Ahn Cuddy overcame anti-Asian prejudice to became the first WWII woman gunnery officer in the U.S. Navy; Ann Dunwoody, born in 1953, rose through the ranks to retire as a four-star Army general; and Kristen Greist was one of the first women to graduate from Army Ranger School. Part of the 6-volume Influential Women series, this title features straightforward text with accessible vocabulary, declarative sentences, and short chapters, and it is supported by photos, a time line, discussion prompts, and fast facts. A good pick for browsers and report writers.
